The shift from punishment to neutralisation

The link layer is where inherited risk concentrates

Content, technical, and trust signals are mostly built by the current owner after taking control, so a buyer can repair them. The link layer is different.     Pull organic traffic and average position from the Search Console performance report, or a visibility index, and find the day the decline started. A sharp, dated step down is the marker an algorithmic event leaves.

    The mistake: reading a gradual seasonal dip as a penalty. A slow slope is rarely an algorithmic signal; a dated cliff is.

  3. Match the date against the known update record

An aged or expired domain can carry an algorithmic signal that the new owner inherits the moment the name transfers. The toxic backlink profile, the exact-match anchor history, the negative link velocity from links decaying, and the content footprint of a domain run as a parked or spam property all ride with the name. A buyer cannot read the prior owner’s Search Console, so this inherited risk is detected from outside, on a domain still up for sale, or it is not detected at all until after purchase.
